Steve writes; We spent some time looking for Spotted Sandgrouse & Sooty
Falcon (although we didn't go to the best place for the latter species) but
without success. Some of the migration we saw in tiny patches of habitat was
spectacular. A tiny patch of reeds (about the size of my kitchen) produced c 120
Marsh Warblers! One bush on the end of the Sila Peninsula produced nine species
of migrants, as well as at least 30 Marsh Warblers!

24.04.2008; Derrick & Graham finds and photographs a Thrush Nightingale in Al Mamzar Park. Also recorded here were 1 Common Nightingale and 1 White-throated Robin.
- Steve Asher finds a Masked Shrike on the Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa golf course.
- Dave reports of NO Brown Shrike present at Jebel Hafit (Mercure garden) today, but a record 15 Rufous-tailed Rock Thrush and a Common Nightingale brightened his day.
- Steve James reports of a Booted Warbler at Khalidiyah.
23.04.2008; Steve James reports of the long-staying Lesser Yellowlegs still showing well at the Al Ain Compost Plant.
22.04.2008; Dave Clark refinds the Brown Shrike in the Mercure Hotel garden (in the tree on the left side as you enter the car park).
- Graham Talbot spends the morning in Al Mamzar Park and reports: 13 White-throated Robins (new UAE max?), 1 Thrush Nightingale, 2 Barred Warbler and 1 Sedge Warbler.
- Andrew visits Al Mamzar Park late in the PM and finds 7 White-throated Robins, 3 Common Nightingale, 1 Turtle Dove (surely a new site species), a high total of
3 Masked Shrike and lots of other migrants.
- Neil walk an hour during the mid day heat in Dubai Creekside Park and finds 1 Thrush Nightingale, 6 Common Nightingale, 1 White-throated Robin, 30 Ortolan Buntings and
1 Pale Rockfinch (a new species to this site).
- Alan reports of a Cinereous Bunting on the lawn at Emirates Atrium on Sheik Zayed Road.
21.04.2008; Alan Jones reports from 'his' helipad on the Palm Jebel Ali shoreline: 1 ad female Variable Wheatear (very rare away from its usual sites). Also seen on this 30x30 m tuft of
grass were 3 Whinchat, a male Desert Wheatear and an Ortolan Bunting.

15.03.2008; The Cunninghams finds 6 Mute Swans in Abu Dhabi Eastern Lagoon. Well done guys, even if they were wing-clipped.
14.03.2008; David Card reports of a Great Spotted Cuckoo in (Ain al Fayda Park?), a new species to the UAE.
The bird was seen well at dawn, between the boating lake and the horse riding/exercising area.

Of the more uncommon birds recorded were 1 male Brambling at Al Wathba Lake, as well as the Black Tern, a Bimaculated Lark and Eurasian Stone Curlew.
Not able to locate the Ashy Drongo or Asian House Martin in Ain al Fayda Park seen there earlier today by Dave.
Abu Dhabi Island held the long-staying Red-breasted Flycatcher (Khalidiyah) and a male Eastern Black-eared Wheatear (Officer's Club).
Simon reports of the springs first Blue-cheeked Bee-eaters in Wadi Madhab.

Private vehicles have now been forbidden entry into the Dubai Pivot Fields because someone was seen driving on the grass while birdwatching.

29.02.2008; Steve 'master burder' James finds the 2nd Ashy Drongo for the UAE & the Western Palearctic!
It was showing well in Ain al-Fayda Park in Al Ain for a number of birders, who saw the bird before sunset.

- 1 Streak-throated Martin, 19 Pale Martin, 1 Brown-throated Martin & 1 Lesser Yellowlegs in Ain al-Fayda Park, with 1 Water Rail showing nicely (all in the
flooded area behind the park). Also present was a putative Asian House Martin, it was confirmed later!
- 5 Ruddy Shelduck at the Al Ain Compost Plant.
- Neima Pools; getting quickly destroyed, and fittingly held the escaped Marabou Stork.

Neil Tovey had a cracking day out with Brian Beers;
- 12 Trumpeter Finch in Wadi Bih, and 1 Chukar.
- 16 Crab Plover at Dreamland Beach, and 2 Broad-billed Sandpipers.
- 45 Great Black-headed Gulls at UAQ Breakwater, and 1 Arctic Skua.
- 2 Great Knot at Khor al-Beida (or what's left of it), and 60 Crab Plovers.
- 1 Buff-bellied Pipit, 1 Sociable Lapwing at the Pivots, and 1 Jack Snipe
- 50 Grey Hypocolius at Ghantoot! 47 birds flew in high at 5.00pm, hung around for 10 min, then headed for the Golden Tulip Hotel.

05.02.2008; Tommy reports of a Streak-throated Swallow at Al Warsan lake in the early morning hours, seen around the large tree with Purple Herons usually in it.

Dave went back at dusk and had a brief view of the Streak-throated Swallow.

20.01.2008; Nicolas Lake & Robbie Brown reports of UAE's 8th Red-crested Pochard (4 males & 1 female) at the Dubai Pivot Fields. Not recorded in the UAE since 1996.
Twitched by Derrick & Tommy at 2PM, in the lake on the small pivot.
At 3PM Andrew ticked them off (not literally).
At 5PM Nick saw the five ducks fly towards Al Warsan Lakes while a single female flew in to the Pivot lake, making todays count 6 Red-crested Pochards!
Shortly before dusk Graham saw the 5 initial birds at Al Warsan Lakes, so they move between the two sites.
Other news; Andreas M. Winnem & the Norwegian quartet reports of 2 Sociable Lapwings still at Ghantoot, no Red Phalarope or Caspian Plover Al Wathba Lake.

Andreas M. Winnem & the Norwegian quartet reports of a possible adult Lesser Spotted Eagle at Hamraniyah Fields, but no conclusive views obtained.
The quartet also reports of 150 Crab Plover and Great Knots at Khor al-Beida (access still difficult), and Chukars in Wadi Bih (but no Trumpeter Finch).

Nick, Oscar & Simon drove to Sila'a Peninsula and reports of an adult & juvenile Oriental Honey Buzzards and a Pallid Harrier.
On the way there they had 2 Hume's Leaf Warblers and an Olive-backed Pipit in Ruwais (in the park near the shopping centre).
